When we purchased Baker Memorials in 1975 all artwork was hand drawn, and the lettering was cut using lettering dies when not cut by hand. We were always looking for ways to become more versatile with lettering and designs, and to provide our customers with a more professional sketch when creating a design for their approval.

Even though we became fairly proficient at providing sketches, the renderings were never quite as professional as we would have liked them to be. Fortunately, CAD systems entered the monument industry and offered us the versatility we were looking for.

MARKERThe problem we encountered initially with our computer system was poor quality artwork. The designs included with our system had to be totally re-worked to clean up lines for proper cutting on the plotter. We decided we would be better off digitizing our own designs rather than trying to clean up someone else's work. Each of our designs was painstakingly digitized. Lines were checked and re-checked for the highest quality workmanship.

For ease in designing, we saved each component of a design separately as well as in a complete design layout. This enabled us to use the components in many aspects rather than in just a full layout.

Once our library was established, we decided to offer the designs to other dealers who might be in the same position that we once were. We were one of the first to market memorial clip art. You'll find our designs are exactly what a memorialist looks for when having purchased a computer system-components and full layouts that are ready for immediate use. These designs are the basics of the monument industry. The components are user-friendly and allow you to be as creative as you want when working with all sizes and shapes of memorials.

Calling on my 27 years of experience in the monument industry, I was able to develop a package of designs with several segments: blank shapes, florals, panels, combination designs, emblems, designs for dies, markers, wedges, etc. This library enables you to immediately use full layouts or to use the components in the creation of new designs for your own library.

All of our florals are designed for ease in shape carving (a process we use on all of our monuments). Therefore, the leaves and flower petals do not have vein lines. Our shop people cut these by hand. If you don't shape carve, the lines are easily added when you are doing your layout on the computer. Our designs tend to be more traditional, but the components allow a wide range of creativity. The designs are uniformly outlined at .10 inch. The designs can be reduced or enlarged in size up to 15% without distortion. Just remember to adjust the outline back to .10 inch.

Uniformity is important in design work. A scanned design cannot be used without extensive "clean up" to the lines. With our designs and the uniform lines, you know what to expect-an excellent quality product.

The spiral bound design catalog is a valuable sales tool. Many dealers purchase extra catalogs for their sales staff. We also offer a brochure. It's nice to hand out a brochure for which you'll have the designs, without being concerned about having to duplicate a design not on your computer. We also offer several fonts for the Gerber systems - standard monument fonts and some specialty ones as well. Some of these will aide in matching existing work from prior lettering systems.

You can purchase the full library of designs or segments of it as listed in our pricing information. To those of you who have one of our earlier editions, upgrades are also available.

We offer five free hours of phone technical support to those who purchase our complete library of designs.

All our designs have been created using the Gerber Graphix Advantage or Omega programs. Both are proprietary and registered trademarks of Gerber Scientific Products. We do not market any Gerber products.
